Web 2.0
Summary of Web 2.0
Based on Andi Gutmans’ video - Andi is the Co-founder and VP of Zend.
- RIA: Rich Internet Application (e.g. Flash, AJAX)
Basically, how do we easily bring items from desktop to browser. Instead of transferring your photos to your desktop, uploading it to the Internet using FTP to some web space that you must already have, create a website to output it, you can now just transfer photos from your camera to your computer (or directly from the camera), upload it to Flickr, and everybody (if you let them) can see your photos. - SOA: Service oriented architecture
Feeds, RSS, Web Services, Mash Ups. Everything you need to subscribe, keep up-to-date, be informed with just a click of a button. Instead of going to 10 different sites, you can just go to your RSS aggregator and read all the current info from your favorite sites. - Social Web: Interaction with end users
Commenting, posting, uploading. Collaboration, social interaction, constructivist. You get the idea. Commenting on your friend’s MySpace or Friendster’s page is one good example.
The most detailed information on what Web 2.0 technology is was given by O’Reilly (and supposeably arose during a brainstorming session that he had with Medialive International).
Web 2.0 Applications
Before browsing this simple list, check out this person’s web2.0 list and review from the 2007 USDLA conference in Kansas City. Or better yet, this is supposably the complete web 2.0 directory on the web.
